Salt Lake Attorney Appointed to Position with the American Bar Association

SALT LAKE CITY, UT August 13, 2004 -- Benjamin Wilson, an attorney with Smith Hartvigsen PLLC, has been named the new co-chair of the American Bar Association’s (ABA) Information Security Committee. Wilson was appointed to the position today during the ABA’s annual meeting in Atlanta and will serve for three years.

With 14 years of legal experience, Wilson specializes in information technology law. Before joining Smith Hartvigsen in 2002, Wilson founded Xcera Consulting, a Salt Lake-based consulting firm.

The ABA’s Information Security Committee is a group of 250 lawyers, technologists and other professionals formed to address the legal, business and technical aspects of securing electronic commerce and protecting information and critical infrastructures within computer systems and networks, such as the Internet. Prior to being appointed as the committee’s co-chairman, Wilson served as editor of "The Public Key Infrastructure Assessment Guidelines" and "Information Security: A Legal, Business, and Technical Handbook." Wilson also is a member of the Utah State Bar's newly established Cyber Law Section.

Wilson attended the University of Utah where he received his J.D. in 1990 and a bachelor of arts degree in 1987. He was admitted to the District of Utah and U.S. District Court in 1990.
